Remco de Haan and Erik Westerhof formed the Groningen Guitar Duo in 1980 during their studies with Willem van Lier at the Groningen Conservatory. Tours were made across Europe, North and South America, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia, with recitals in, among others, Carnegie Hall – New York, Bunka Kaikan – Tokyo, Purcell Room – London, and Concertgebouw – Amsterdam. Recently, the duo made successful tours to Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, Sudan, Algeria, Colombia, the United Arab Emirates, Cuba, Germany, England, Russia, Serbia and Montenegro. Among others, the duo has worked with the Radio Kamerorkest, the Noord Nederlands Orkest, the Nieuw Vlaams Symfonieorkest (Belgium) and the Nouvel Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France (France).In 2002 the duo performed together with the Noord Nederlands Orkest, when they played their own arrangement of the Concerto in D BWV 1054 by J.S. Bach. |
| Recordings were made for radio and television by several Dutch broadcasting companies, the BBC, the ORTF, and by Irish, Turkish, Israeli, Colombian, Ecuadorian, Surinam, Russian and Montenegrin television. Some years ago, the 8th CD was released, entitled ‘The John McLaughlin Suites’. This CD contains arrangements of compositions by the English jazz guitarist John McLaughlin. In October 2004 the duo released the new CD ‘Dedicatoria (homage to Julian Bream)’. This CD contains works by Enrique Granados, Isaac Albéniz and Robert Schumann. Master guitarist Julian Bream wrote about this CD: ‘This album sounds very well! Thank you for the dedication.’ In March 2005, the professional magazine ‘Luister’ awarded the CD with nine points out of ten. Remco de Haan and Erik Westerhof were classical guitar teachers at the Prins Claus Conservatorium in Groningen. They were visiting lecturers at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag, the Rotterdams Conservatorium, the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Hamburg and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. |
